Huay Kaew waterfall is a very famous tourist attraction in the past. I usually went there in summer. I couldn’t forget a stream of fresh water, beautiful sceneries and sweet memories I had spent there with my family. But all of these have already vanished. Huay Kaew waterfall is a well-known place for many students to make love with their boyfriend/girlfriend. Lots of rocky areas are used as a natural bedroom for Chiang Mai youths to have sex. As being a teacher, I always hear much news about sex activities of high school students there. Not only at Huay Kaew waterfall, there are so many natural places along the road up to Doi Suthep being used as small sleazy hotels such as Wang Bua Baan and Pha Nguab. Why do they choose to have sex at these places? I asked my students at my college and they said “They don’t have enough money to go to a hotel. Many people have sexual intercourse at this place. Why can’t we do the same?” I was shock.
Their behavior suggests the fact happening now in Thai society. More and more Thai youths are willing to lose their virginity at the early age. They don’t care about Thai culture and social norm about the idea of maintaining women’s virginity before marriage.
Worse than that, they don’t care about the place where they could have sex at all. When place and time match with their sexual needs, here goes having sex. The value of many natural places in Chiang Mai is degrading by our teens to be as their space to sleep with their mates. What will happen if this event is keeping on? Let’s imagine. The run-down Chiang Mai is coming. Is that’s right?

the only concern of mine is the aftershock; the following problems after many people start having sex at their young age. the number of teens who start having a sexual relationship with their girl/boyfriend is increasing day by day. At the same time with the number of unwanted or un-prepared pregnancy is increasing. follow up with disease problems such as HIV. tremendous problems are following.
I have heard that people are time-limited to get in the places after the problem arose (not fully permiting). However, I think this is part of a way to solve the problem but it's really a small part. it's the tail of the problem. the body and the head, the more important parts, are more challenge and more important to resolve.

It's difficult to say when would be the right age to have sexual relationship. In the old time, Thai people marry young. They got married when they are only 15 -16 year of age.
Teenagers, nowaday, are pushed to persue higher education. The proper age to get married is pushed even further. Recently, people get married when they are 26 - 35 year-old. However, the sex drive is already started when they were 15, or even younger.
The college students in Chiang Mai, more than 50 percents, are from other provinces. Many of them rent apartments and take care of themselves. With no advice of an adult, sometimes, they do not know how to behave properly. Compare with teenagers living with family, they tend to be more mature.
Students like to hang out after school time. About ten years ago, there was only milk shops around the schools but now changed to be beer bars and night clubs. These kinds of places stimulate students to expose themselves for such activities as young adult quicker than before. They go out at night and dress to attract the opposite sex.
Too much freedom and too much exposure with adult (night time) activities lurred students with a fake freedom of expression. Sexual relationship is one of the kinds.
Teenagers love challenging. Having sex in public space is also a great chalenge. It brings up so much excitement which their are always romanticized. Not only at the Huay Kaew waterfall but every parks in Chiang Mai are already places for beded for many couples (or threesome or more), not only the students but adults as well. Only the adults have more choices due to their economic.
Teenagers' behavior are only the reflection of our society.
Instead of blaming them, we should ask ourselves, what we have done to our future generations. We build disco teques, night clubs, beer bars near schools. We publish pornography magazines. On the front page of every newspapers must have pictures of semi-nude models. If these are things we plant then we will cultivate them in our future.
The symptom reflects the sickness.
Teenagers' impropered sexual behavior reflect mental disorder of our society.

I strongly agree with P'Kop's comment which have already covered all my point of veiw.
By the way, I want to add something more about those teens. It is not only the relationship between boys and girls, but boys and boys, also girls and girls. Don't think that I have experienced about it before. I am telling you all something true. That's the point. The attitude toward sexuality among Thai teens is no longer fixed at the relationship between boys and girls.
By the way, my personal openion is to focus on Thai education system which have been changed from the one that we have learnt before. The old curriculum had taught us about academic issues, morality ,ethics, social skills and religion, which were inserted accordingly. Whereas, the lattest one has only focused on how to make students perform the best on acdemic issues.
This is why the teens now behave different from us. They have no tools to prevent or remind them to think before taking action.

How many percentages of students who decide to do this compared to the number of all students in Chiang Mai?
By the way,having sexual desire in nature is one aspect of human beings.It would be impossible to stop all the students to do this.Anyway,to decrease the number of students who have sex in these areas,the police department of Chiang Mai should increase the number of polices who have responsible for this case.Moreover they should increase the punishment for this case.I know it's not the best solution but it should relieves this problem.
I do think that in schools,there are not enough information of sexual education.If we provide more and more sexual education,it could lessen probles from sex of youths.
The problem begins with the carelessness of parents. Many parents reject to teach sexual knowlege to their kids.They don't even care about life styles of their kids.They just give money and keep on working.Therefore it is easy for youths to be lured to the bad way.
